You must allow Facebook access to register your and your friends profile picture.

Facebook Pages That May Embarrass You

There’s a new kind of ‘scam’ on Facebook that won’t do you any harm but it is likely to embarrass you in public. I have lately seen some of my tech-savvy friends on Facebook fall for such scams and you should be careful as well.

The scam work something like this. You land on a unsuspecting Facebook page and there’s a pop-up saying that you need to confirm that you are an adult in order to view the underlying content. You click confirm and the dialog disappears.

The problem is that the ‘pop-up’ you just clicked was not actually a pop-up but some sort of a hidden script that executes itself as soon as you hit the ‘Confirm’ button.

The script, in most cases, will automatically post a link on your Facebook wall thus broadcasting to the world that you just tried visiting an ‘adult’ site. This will almost create a viral effect because now your other friends will be eager to see that page and some of them may fall in the trap as well.

Facebook in blue why is it?

This is original design of Facebook when it was called thefacebook.com – you were required to have an .edu email address to even open an account on Facebook.

This is Facebook now – open for all and 500 million people are using it already.

Facebook has gone through some major redesigns in the past few years but one part that has more or less stayed the same in all those years is the site’s blue color.

Everything is so blue about Facebook right from the sign-up page to the logo, their mobile app and even the site pop-ups that have shades of blue. Why?

I was recently listening to an episode of Twig where host Leo Laporte pointed to this New Yorker story on Mark Zuckerberg that seems to explain why Facebook is all blue in color.

The young Facebook founder is color blind but can see blue:

Colors don’t matter much to Zuckerberg; a few years ago, he took an online test and realized that he was red-green color-blind. Blue is Facebook’s dominant color, because, as he said, “blue is the richest color for me – I can see all of blue.”

Facebook is not the only Internet brand the loves blue. An interesting study by Color Lovers has revealed that blue is the most popular and dominant color among the top 100 sites in the world followed by the red color.

It is part of their well planned Marketing plan. Most colors distract and make the human eye focus on them while blue act as a transparent palette for 65% of time spending watching the main background aka index space. It is well known also that blue color is the nirvana for the brain, as well green. Well, their choice make the competition envy most of the time.

The Benefits of Using Facebook Groups

You are probably connected with multiple sets of people on Facebook that have little in common. For instance, you are friends with your work colleagues, college mates, family members and so on. What you share on Facebook, like a picture or a video, may be interesting to one set of contacts but the other set may just see it as pure noise.

To deal with this problem, Facebook has long had a feature called lists that let you limit the visibility of your status updates to select contacts but the feature never really took off. Now Facebook has come up with an even better solution in the form of Facebook Groups.

With Facebook Groups, you can form multiple smaller networks of people inside Facebook and what you share with one group stays in that group. That means if you share your kids pictures among the “family” group, they won’t show up in your colleagues’ news feed.

Other than private messaging, Groups give you access to some new communication tools in Facebook that were not available available before. Some examples:

1. Interact without logging into Facebook

When you create a group in Facebook, you have the option to assign a unique email address to that group. (Go to Edit Group –> Choose a Group Email Address)

This is so interesting because you now can interact with your Facebook friends using your email client itself without having to log into Facebook.com. If someone posts a picture or a message on the Facebook group, you get an email notification and you can add a comment to that post by simply replying to that email message.

2. Group Chat Many:Many

The regular chat in Facebook is 1:1 but with Groups, all the members of that group can talk to each other simultaneously. For the first time, you can get to chat with people on Facebook who are not your friends but are part of the same group.

3. Wiki meets Facebook

Facebook Groups have a wiki-like feature called “Docs” that group members can use to create text documents with Facebook itself.

These document can be edited by any other group member and Facebook stores a log of every single edit that’s made to the document just like a regular wiki.

4. Send Bulk Email

Let’s say you have a party at home and you want to send an invite to all your Facebook friends. The problem is that Facebook won’t let you send a message to more than 20 friends at a time.

As a workaround, you can create a temporary “secret” group with all your Facebook friends and anything that you now post in this group will be sent to their inboxes as well. As far as I know, there are no limits on the maximum number of people who can be part of your Facebook group.

Facebook to Support High Resolution Photos

The social networking site Facebook has never been know as a place you can view good quality images of your friend and family. Due to the high compression ratios they use on an images uploaded to the site.

Well, this is about to change, as Facebook will be rolling out support for high definition photos and images over the coming weeks for free to all its users.

Once the new support has been implement by Facebook you will be able to upload photos with a maximum size of 2048 pixels.

Together with the increased image size Facebook will also be rolling out a new method to view photos using a lightbox style method with navigation controls on either side.

The upgrade process started today and Facebook hopes to complete the move with a few weeks to all its users.
