Sylvania's 7-inch Android tablet now ready to....

Sylvania 7inch Tablet
Not down with coughing up serious cash for a serious Galaxy Tab? Great news, Bargain Ben: you've got options. Joining the raft of cut-rate, low-priced tablets is a new one from Sylvania, which is humorously described as a "7-inch MID tablet." Details are scarce, but it's rocking Android 2.1, an 800 x 480 screen resolution, six-hour battery, 512MB of RAM, 2GB of Flash memory, front-facing camera and a microSD card slot. You'll also get 802.11b/g WiFi, a pair of mini-USB sockets, HDMI output and what we're assuming is a resistive touchpanel. We'd say the chances of Android Market access are slim to none, but for just $179.99, who really cares if it functions?

Kno Dual Screen Tablet

Some of our readers will remember the Kno dual screen tablet that is designed to be used by college students, the company has just announced the pricing and the dual screen version will retail for $899, whilst the single screen version will retail for $599.

The Kno Textbook is a tablet platform that is designed to replace text books, and be used by college students, although we think the price may be a little high.

Kno Dual Screen Tablet

The companies CEO doesn’t seem to think the price is too high, as he thinks that college students will see it as a replacement text books.

The Dual screen Kno Textbook features dual displays, an NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor, and 16GB of storage, with a Linux based OS.

How About Turning a MacBook Into a Tablet for $50

We've featured one DIY MacBook Tablet before, but this particular model takes a very different approach, modding only the screen itself for a cheap, usable tablet computer.

Unlike most custom Mac tablets, this mod doesn't include any extra parts besides the touch screen itself, which hacker Enigma-penguin got for less than $100 around $50. The computer doesn't have a swiveling screen or anything like that—it's just a backwards-facing touch screen, accessible by cutting off most of the lid.

Obviously, it's still a pretty heavy mod, and the project isn't for the faint of heart. It costs quite a bit less than other similar projects, though, so if you were disappointed by the iPad, it's probably the most accessible Mac tablet mod out there. It's still a work in progress, but only needs a few more touches, and looks pretty usable in most situations. Hit the link to read up on the full project.
