WinZip Now Available On Mac OS X And Will On iPhone And Android Near 2011

WinZip is the popular compression software has now created version of its compression utility for Mac, and has unveiled it is currently developing versions for the iPhone and Android OS.

The new mobile editions are expected to arrive in early 2011 for the iPhone and iPad with Android apps available later in the year.

Its the very first edition that WinZip has created for OS X and just like the Windows version WinZip Mac supports Zip, Zipx, RAR, LHA and 7z file types and . However the new Mac edition has a completely  re-designed user interface. Providing features to reduce file size, secure sensitive information and send zipped email attachments instantly.

WinZip for Mac is now available to download, WinZip Mac Edition with a free 30-day trial. A single-user licence will cost £26, and it requires Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard to run.

Sylvania's 7-inch Android tablet now ready to....

Not down with coughing up serious cash for a serious Galaxy Tab? Great news, Bargain Ben: you've got options. Joining the raft of cut-rate, low-priced tablets is a new one from Sylvania, which is humorously described as a "7-inch MID tablet." Details are scarce, but it's rocking Android 2.1, an 800 x 480 screen resolution, six-hour battery, 512MB of RAM, 2GB of Flash memory, front-facing camera and a microSD card slot. You'll also get 802.11b/g WiFi, a pair of mini-USB sockets, HDMI output and what we're assuming is a resistive touchpanel. We'd say the chances of Android Market access are slim to none, but for just $179.99, who really cares if it functions?

Opera Mobile 10.1 Beta For Android Is Out

Opera has released the latest version of its Opera Mobile browser for Google’s Android platform, Opera Mobile 10.1 Beta. Opera Mobile for Android offers a range of features including speed enhancements, smooth scrolling zooming and panning.

Other features on Opera Mobile 10.1 Beta for Android include visual tabs, speed dial, built in geolocation support, bookmarks syncing across a range of devices.

Opera Mobile 10.1 Beta is available as a free download from the Android Market.

Do you Want Android on your iPhone!

A year ago, the idea of being able to run Android on the iPhone was damn near laughable. Surely, no hacker was good enough to pull off that feat!

Then this happened, and our minds were blown wide open.

7 months later, the project has progressed enough that just about anyone can do it — in fact, you don’t even need a computer.

Once a fairly complicated process, the whole thing has been diluted down to little more than tapping a few buttons and waiting. The only bad news: you’ll need a jailbroken first generation iPhone , or a jailbroken iPhone 3G. Neither the 3GS or iPhone 4 are supported yet.

Got the required materials at the ready? Redmond Pie has the full breakdown, from installing the new bootloader to pulling down the Android installation.

iPhone 2G users can similarly follow the steps to jailbreak using Redsn0w, Blackra1n and PwnageTool.

If you don’t meet the above requirements then you can’t go ahead with the installation of Android on your iPhone 2G/3G. If you do, then proceed with the following steps.

Step 1: Jailbreak your iPhone 2G/3G using the steps given in the links above. When you’re done, run Cydia from your iPhone’s springboard, and add “http://repo.neonkoala.co.uk/”

(without quotes) as repository. Tap “Add Source”, and then you need to install “Bootlace” as shown in the screenshots below.

Step 2: Once you have installed Bootlace, fire up the app from the homescreen:.

Step 3: From “Bootlace”, you need to install “OpeniBoot”.

Step 4: Once “OpeniBoot” has been installed, tap on the “iDroid” tab in the bottom row to install iDroid.

Step 5: Once iDroid has been installed on your iPhone, tap the “QuickBoot” tab in the bottom row, followed by tapping on the Android logo, your iPhone will now restart and boot into Android. That’s it, you’re done! You now have Android 2.2.1 Froyo on your iPhone.

Please refer to Step 4 again if you want to check for Android updates in future. And it’s highly recommended that you perform the whole feat over a WiFi connection.

Just a few weeks after the announcement of their first HSPA+ phone, the G2, T-Mobile has just announced their second: the myTouch by HTC.

“But wait,” you say, “hasn’t the myTouch existed forever?”

Yes, yes it has. But that was the myTouch 3G – this one’s just the “myTouch”. Hurray for confusing names!

6 Android Browsers Were Put To The Test

Wondering which mobile Android browser is the best alternative to the standard Android browser? Well PC World have put 4 third party browsers to the test for you, Skyfire 2.0, Dolphin HD, Opera Mini, and Mozilla Fennec (also known as Firefox Mobile).

During the tests it was found that each browser had both strengths an weaknesses regards their features and each one was then put through speed tests. (results above)

With regards an overall winner the decision is a little more complex and really depends on your exact requirements. i.e if Flash is high on your list then Skyfire appears to be an obvious answer.

Toshiba Folio 100 Android Tablet Preview

We have all ready seen a hands on video with the new Toshiba Folio 100 Android tablet, now Toshiba have released a bunch of official videos which show the features on their new Android tablet.

The Toshiba Folio 100 features 10.1 inch touchscreen display with a resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels, processing comes form a 1GHz Nvidia Tegra 2 processor.

Other specifications on the Toshiba Folio 100 include a mini USB port, a HDMI port, SD card slot and a 1.3 megapixel camera. The Folio 100 runs the latest version of Google’s Android OS, Android 2.2 Froyo, and it features Adobe Flash 10.1, integrated Bluetooth, 3G and WiFi.
